Missionary Associates with PMM
Estuardo & Mariana serve with Alfalit Ecuador and Confraternidad Evangelica Ecuatoriana (Evangelical Fellowship of Ecuador), which is equivalent to the U. S. National Association of Evangelicals. Estuardo has served as President of the organization for several years. The couple has also directed Alfalit for over 35 years. They also serve on the Board of Directors of Palm Ecuador (link), an affiliate of PMM. The Lopez couple are faith missionaries, and they raise their support from donor/ministry partners.
Their primary ministry is Alfalit. The lives of thousands of the poorest of the poor have been impacted by the love and teaching of the Lopez’s through the literacy and basic education programs of Alfalit. Many of these recipients also were led to follow Christ through the program as the curriculum is all Bible-based. Of course, this is the aim of the ministry.
Alfalit takes the Lopez’s to both suburban and rural areas of Ecuador, where they train volunteer teachers to teach basic education (3 R’s), nutrition, hygiene and personal finances and budgeting. They also oversee the program and its teaching on an ongoing basis. Completion of these courses has contributed greatly to the improvement of the quality of the lives of the participants.
The couple also started the first Christian School in Pedernales, in the Manabí Province of Ecuador. This came about after the government closed the public schools in the very poor districts of Manabí. The children were left with no schools, and the poor parents really were hopelessly without a solution. They understand that the children will never break from poverty without an education, but they were unable to start and equip a school on their own. Children were turning to gangs and the community was in despair. Since the start of the Christian School, many of the children have been rescued from the gangs and the
children and their families are being taught and discipled with Christian curriculum.
The school started in the local fishermen’s building, but it left much to be desired. Through generous gifts and work teams, land was purchased and a new building has been built that houses the school. As the children learn and move up to higher grades, classes are added. This means that construction never stops, though, and it will not stop until it accommodates all grades. There is a great need for donor and partners to join in this much needed project. If the Lord leads you to join the Lopez family, Alfalit and PMM in this endeavor, please see the contact page for instructions. I know you will be blessed greatly in this life-saving ministry.
